From TF2 Classified Wiki
Removed the stub as this page has a decent amount of information on it, and also added the Fight or Flight part.

The Anti-Aircraft Cannon commonly referred to as the AA, is a primary weapon for Heavy, added in the Fight or Flight update. It resembles an anti-aircraft cannon rescaled to be carried by a person. It has a slower firing rate compared to the stock Minigun, and a much smaller ammo pool. However it fires explosive shells that explode after a set distance and mini-crits airborne opponents on direct hit.

Unlike other hitscan weapons, the AA has splash damage and can be used to hit enemies hiding behind corners. In fact it can be usefult o think of the AA as an explosive projectile weapon except it cannot be reflected. It deals self damage to the Heavy if it explodes too close to him and has even more limited range compared to the Minigun. The AA is best used in close quarters situation as beyond a certain distance it is useless, but can be used to punish explosive jumpers or people thrown into the air.

*Part of the publicity blurb for the AA says "Shoot for the moon!". This is part of a quote "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars". It is commonly attributed to Norman Vincent Peale and he was inspired by the Space Race.
