Translation mishandling

Don't translate the base pages to your language. I don't know which language code would cover the language you're translating into, but I'm going to guess either zh-hans or zh-hant, so you should be creating translated versions of article like Pyro/zh-hans or Pyro/zh-hant depending on if you're doing simplified or traditional Chinese. 🇷🇴 01:39, 14 September 2025 (UTC)

Translation mishandling, again

Hiya. It seems you've mishandled the titles of localized pages twice by now? I reverted those changes because localized pages do not work like that. I'm writing this to give you a bit of help.

Currently, localized pages follow roughly the same system as the TF2 Wiki. Localized pages need to follow the format English title/zh-hans for the sake of MediaWiki recognizing the page as a translation. It allows the wiki (well, specifically the extension I wrote) to:

  • recognize the language properly
  • automatically add a link to the other languages in the language box at the bottom left.
  • localize the wiki's interface for unlogged users (rather than show it in English).
  • let templates also recognize the language and let them choose the proper languages (because templates are meant to hold language information!!).

See it in action at TF2Classic_Wiki:Language test.

I'm picking a few examples, but as of right now, you've made these following (invalid) pages:

  • "侦察兵" - should be Scout/zh-hans.
  • "File:Backpack 猎枪.png" - a duplicate of File:Backpack Scattergun.png, duplicates files aren't allowed, you should use the original file.
  • "Category:武器" - categories are messy, they're a special MediaWiki tool, the proper category would technically be Category:Weapons/zh-hans, so I think the invalid category shouldn't exist at all even as a redirect?

Please generally try avoiding renaming pages as of right now.

Read Help:Language translation for more information. Try looking at other existing translations to see how they've done the technical stuff.

If you have any questions, please do ask. Thank you. Technochips (talk) 12:34, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
