Unlike other hitscan weapons, the AA has splash damage and can be used to hit enemies hiding behind corners. In fact it can be usefult o think of the AA as an explosive projectile weapon except it cannot be reflected. It deals self damage to the Heavy if it explodes too close to him and has even more limited range compared to the Minigun.
